BCCC Foundation Awards Scholarships



The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following recipients of scholarships through the for the fall 2017 semester. This is just a sample of the recipients. Check back with us every week for more recipients.

Chaleigh Baynor has received the Bobby Andrews Endowment Scholarship. Baynor, 18, is the daughter of James and Vicki Baynor of Washington. She plans to work in the medical field. The Washington resident attended Washington High School. She currently works as a manager at Little Caesar’s.

Caroline Boyd has received the BCCC Foundation Scholarship. Boyd, 18, is the daughter of Bo and Angela Boyd. She is working on an Associate in Science and plans to attend Appalachian State University. The Washington resident attended Washington High School and currently works at Pamlico Animal Hospital as a kennel worker.

Christopher Bright has received the State Employees Credit Union Scholarship. Bright, 28, is working on an Associate in Applied Science in Electrical Engineering Technology. He is the son of Gary and Sondra Bright of Chocowinity, and husband of Robby Bright. The Williamston resident attended Southside High School, and he holds a Certificate in Machining from BCCC. Bright currently works as a gas technician I for Greenville Utilities. His degree will help him to advance in his career.

Christina Brown has received the Community Scholarship. Brown, 23, is working on an Associate Degree in Nursing, and she plans to get her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and has her sight set on a master’s degree. The Greenville resident attended D. H. Conley High School. She is the daughter of Jim and Edna Umphlett, and currently works as a sales associate at Belk’s. She is concurrently working on an Associate in General Education.

Christopher Leaver has received the David Clark Endowment Scholarship. Leaver, 25, is the son of Russell Leaver of Chocowinity and Bonnie Leaver of Morehead City. He is the husband of Alexis Fraley and a father of one. Leaver is working on an Associate in Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology, and he plans to seek an apprenticeship at Marine Corps Air Base Cherry Point. The Washington resident attended Southside High School and currently works as a skilled craftsman at Oak Ridge Metal Works.

Catherine Sanders has received the Community Endowment Scholarship. Sanders, 31, is the daughter of Pam and Terry Hannah, and Pam and Ivan Ireland of Lowland. She is working on an Associate Degree in Nursing and plans to get her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The Hobucken resident attended Pamlico County High School. She is the wife of Jeff Sanders and a mother of four.

Cherry Taylor has received the Cypress Landing Scholarship. Taylor, 43, is working on an Associate Degree in Nursing, and she plans work in labor and delivery, or neonatal intensive care. The Washington resident is a mother of one, and she attended Washington High School.

Cameron Whitehead has received the Tayloe Memorial Scholarship. Whitehead, 29, is the daughter of Doug and Valerie Whitehead of Washington. She is working on an Associate Degree in Nursing, she and plans to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at East Carolina University. The Washington resident attended Washington High School, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business & Marketing Education with a Concentration in Mathematics from East Carolina University.

Brittany Wiggins has received the BCCC Foundation Scholarship and the Tayloe Memorial Endowment Scholarship. Wiggins, 19, is the daughter of James and Lori Wiggins of Vanceboro. She is working on an Associate Degree in Nursing, and through the RIBN program, plans to continue towards a master’s degree. The Vanceboro resident attended West Craven High School.
