Manufacturing Pre-Employment Training Connects Job-Seekers with Local Employers

The manufacturing sector is looking for qualified workers. Job-seekers can find everything they need to fine-tune their job skills to land one of these positions with this new training series through Beaufort County Community College's Continuing Education Division starting on October 22.

"With the very low unemployment rate, companies are having a hard time filling open positions," said Sara Watson, Director of Customized Training. The unemployment rate for Beaufort County now stands at 5.1 percent. "These positions require specific skills for the manufacturing sector, such as the Yellow Belt training."

To help connect applicants to these openings, BCCC, NCWorks, Beaufort County Economic Development, Region Q Workforce Development Board and Beaufort County Schools, with the help of the MAX Carolina grant, developed a specific series for under-employed and unemployed workers. The series will take students through Yellow Belt training, basic math and blueprint reading, OSHA 10 safety training, interview skills and resume writing.

Not only will job-seekers grow their skills, they may even leave with a job interview. On the final day, students will participate in speed interviews that will help them build their skills and could result in a follow-up interview with a company in attendance. Camfil, Flanders Filters, Iconic Marine, PAS and IDX are among the companies possibly attending.

The training may also be useful to employees who hope to reposition themselves in their current place of employment. Qualifying individuals can take the series for free. Interested participants can call Sara Watson at 252-940-6311.
