Foundation Accepting Scholarship Applications, Announces Recipients



The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following scholarship recipients. On October 25, the foundation will hold an auction and concert featuring the Embers to continue funding such scholarships. Scholarship applications for the spring 2019 semester are due on November 9. Loren Cherry, 21, received the Myrtle Cutler Jones Scholarship. Cherry is the daughter of John Lee Cherry Jr. and the late Neva Pridgen Cherry of Washington. She is working on her prerequisites for the nursing program, and she attended Northside High School. The Washington resident plans to work in labor and delivery nursing and currently works seasonally at H&R Block as a client service professional.

Daniel “Reid” Crouch, 19, received the David and Terri Anne McLawhorn Scholarship. He is part of the agribusiness technology program. The son of William and Tadge Jefferson of Pinetown, he attended Pungo Christian Academy. The Pinetown resident currently works at the R&S 66 Service Center in Belhaven.

Davis Reason, 19, received the David C. Lee Scholarship. He is working toward an Associate in Arts and plans to teach business. The son of Rex Reason of Williamston and Page Davis of Greenville, he attended Riverside High School. The Williamston resident currently works in aquarium sales at Fish Fish Fish.

Emanuel Romero Ruiz, 18, received the BCCC Foundation Scholarship. He is part of the nursing program, and attended D.H. Conley High School. He is the son of Ricardo Romero and Lorenza Riuz of Washington.

Memphis Slade-Credle 18, received the Reid Sasnett Scholarship. He is part of the PackTrac program for agricultural and environmental technology, meaning he will finish his bachelor’s degree at N.C. State University. He is the son of Ricky and Onika Credle of Belhaven and attended Northside High School. The Belhaven resident currently works at the Town of Belhaven Recreational Department.

Claire Taylor, 19, received the Irwin & Frances Hulbert Scholarship. The Williamston resident is working toward an Associate Degree in Nursing and is part of the Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses (RIBN) program. The daughter of Roy and Lucy Taylor of Williamston, she attended Riverside High School.

Morgan Taylor, 17, received the Doris Eakes Scholarship. She is part of the nursing program and the Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses (RIBN) program. The daughter of Mike and Michelle Taylor of Williamston, she attended Riverside High School. The Williamston resident currently works as a busser at Ribeyes.

Susanna Van Gyzen, 17, received the Ponzer Ruritan and the Belhaven-Pantego Rotary Club Scholarship. She is part of the nursing program and the Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses (RIBN) program. The daughter of Amanda Sawyer of Washington and Bryan Van Gyzen of Pantego, she attended Northside High School. The Pantego resident currently works in food prep at Georgie’s Sport and Oyster Bay in Belhaven.For more information, contact Jen Seay at 252-940-6218.
