Medication Aide for Long Term Care
Expand your Nurse Aide 1 credentials with this NC Board of Nursing approved course! This 2 week course is designed to meet the training requirements necessary for the Nurse Aide 1 to become qualified as a Medication Aide for Long Term Care Facilities. The course will cover the six rights of medication administration for non-licensed personnel. Topics will include medication administration via the oral, topical and instillation routes, medical asepsis, hand hygiene, terminology and legal implications. Upon completion, students should be prepared to take the North Carolina Medication Aide written competency exam and demonstrate skills necessary to qualify for listing on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry. GRADE REQUIREMENTS:
A score of 90 on the written exam and satisfactory completion of a skills competency check are required to pass the course. Students must attend all 24 hours of class to receive credit for the course.

 

Medication Aide for Adult Care Homes
The Adult Care Home Medication Aide course prepares individuals employed in adult care homes to safely administer medication to adult residents after taking the North Carolina Adult Care Licensure Section's Medication Exam. Individuals administering medications in adult care homes are required to take this certification exam within 60 days of their hire date. The routes of medication administration covered in this course are oral, eye, ear, nasal, inhalant, transdermal, topical, and subcutaneous routes. To receive credit for the course students must attend all hours of the class, pass the written class exam, and complete the required skills assessment with 100% competency. Upon completion of the class, students are eligible to apply for and take the Adult Care Home MedicationAide Exam at a regional testing site (testing fee is currently $25.00).
