National Career Readiness Certificate

North Carolina offers the ACT® National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). The NCRC certifies core employability skills required across multiple industries and occupations. The NCRC is a portable credential that promotes career development and skill attainment for the individual, and confirms to employers that an individual possesses basic workplace skills in reading, applied math, and locating information - skills that most jobs require.

The NCRC has four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. The four levels allow an individual to advance his or her reading, applied math, and locating information skill levels in order to qualify for more jobs.

  • Bronze Level - An individual achieving this level of certification possesses core employability skills for approximately 16% of the jobs profiled by WorkKeys® in these skill areas.
  • Silver Level - An individual achieving this level of certification possesses core employability skills for approximately 67% of the jobs profiled by WorkKeys® in these skill areas.
  • Gold Level - An individual achieving this level of certification possesses core employability skills for approximately 93% of the jobs profiled by WorkKeys® in these skill areas.
  • Platinum Level - An individual achieving this level of certification possesses core employability skills for approximately 99% of the jobs profiled by WorkKeys® in these skill areas.

NCRC Prep Classes:
Individuals seeking to obtain their National Career Readiness Certificate will need to attend a prep class to take the necessary pre-testings, before being registered to take the actual assessments.  In the prep class, tutoring assistance as well as one-on-one instruction if offered as needed. Once both the student and the instructor agree, the instructor will schedule the individual for testing, which takes place on the BCCC campus.

The registration fee and the technology fee for the prep class can be waived if the individual meets the fee wavier (criteria listed below). There is a $36 CRC Testing fee that cannot be waived and is paid on the day or night of testing.

We offer testing once a week on a rotating basis.  Tuesdays are at 9 am (one week), and Thursdays at 5 pm (the next week).  We do not accept walk-ins for testing, so you must registration by attending a prep class listed below.  All testing fees are collected by the proctor on the day/night of testing.

When attending class, please let the instructor know why you are obtaining your NCRC, as numerous companies have different requirements, and we would like to make sure you achieve the required scores the first time around. Pre-testing is self-paced and can take an individual from one hour to three hours or more.
