NC Fast Income Maintenance Caseworker

NC FAST is a partnership between the Department of Social Services and the Community Colleges across the State of North Carolina. This partnership was created to establish a training network for the position of "Income Maintenance Caseworker".

This training program will involve two phases and students MUST complete and successfully pass Phase I to be eligible to enroll in Phase 2.

Phase 1: Introduction to Human Services: DSS Income Maintenance Caseworker

This course covers skills and strategies designed to provide employability skills training and career exploration for the role of Income Maintenance Caseworker with the Division of Social Services. This class is 42 to 50-hour class and is a pass or fail course. Students will be required to take the National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC) as part of Phase 1. Students will be required to earn at least the Bronze level to enroll in Phase 2. Students MUST attend at least 75% of the class hours and must participate in ALL class activities. Students who successfully complete all the required components will receive a Certificate of Completion to include with their resume.

Phase 1 will be offered through our Human Resources Development (HRD) Program, so a fee waiver will apply for students who qualify. The estimated registration fee will be $125 and a $5 technology fee. The CRC testing fee is $36. The CRC fee cannot be waived and students will pay the fee at the time of testing.

*** Due to the hands-on training provided, this class will be "seated" on campus with mandatory attendance requirements.

Phase 2: Income Maintenance Caseworker - NC FAST

This course is designed to cover a variety of skills associated with the Income Maintenance Caseworker role to determine service eligibility. Specific focus will include proficienty in the utilization of the NC FAST application. Other topics will include skills in communication, interviewing, time management, data gathering/compiling, and data analysis. This class is a 60-hour class and is a pass or fail course. Students MUST attend at least 75% of the class hours and must participate in ALL class activities. Students who successfully complete all the required components will receive a Certificate of Completion to include with their resume.

Phase 2 will be offered as a regular Continuing Education class with no fee waivers or funding assistance available. The estimated registration fee is $180, a $5 technology fee also will be applied to this class.

What is in it for me?
The ultimate outcome is that individuals who complete the entire program, would be eligible to apply for any Income Maintenance Caseworker position with DSS, throughout the entire State of North Carolina. Preference will be given to individuals who can show documentation (through course certificates) that they have completed this program.
