Frequently Asked Questions

BCCC has an open-door policy for general admission and accepts all students into associates degree programs who have earned a high school diploma or GED equivalent. To complete the admission process, click here. Once your BCCC application is submitted, be sure to request that official copies of all transcripts are sent to admissions@beaufortccc.edu or mailed to BCCC Admissions Office, 5337 HWY 264 East, Washington, NC 27889. Students who have not previously completed a college math and/or English course are placed into entry-level math and English courses determined by unweighted high school GPA. If the unweighted high school GPA is not available, students can opt to take the RISE placement test. Certain programs within the College may have selected admission in which admissions policies are more specific and/or competitive.

How much will it cost?

BCCC has the area’s best educational value. The current resident tuition is $76.00 per credit hour. There are also additional expenses for student activity fees and books. Many students attend BCCC because it is much more cost effective than larger institutions. Tuition for high school students who are enrolled at BCCC is waived.

What are the financial aid options?

The BCCC Financial Aid Office can help explore options to finance your education through academic scholarships, federal student aid (including Pell Grants), work-study programs, tuition tax credits, veterans educational assistance, and more. BCCC has the connections to help you fund your educational endeavors!

How long must I live in NC to be eligible to pay in-state tuition?

In general, residency (i.e. domicile) must be established and maintained for 12 consecutive months immediately prior to the term for which you plan to enroll with the in-state benefit. If you do not qualify, you will be charged out-of-state tuition rates. Continuing Education (non-credit) tuition is the same for in-state and out-of-state students.

What about class size?

BCCC gives you the opportunity to be an individual instead of one of the crowd. Small classes ensure one-on-one interaction with highly skilled instructors. Many classes average a capacity of 25 students per class or less.

Will BCCC classes transfer to a four-year college or university

Yes! Through the College Transfer program, students can earn credits that are fully transferable to four-year colleges and universities. Students who earn the college transfer associate degree, generally complete 50% of the required bachelor's degree credits at BCCC. In most cases, these students are able to complete the four-year degree in two additional years. Transfer programs are one of the most important reasons why many students choose to study at BCCC.

Can high school students take classes at BCCC?

Absolutely! Today’s college environment is more demanding and competitive than ever. An increasing number of motivated high school students are preparing for the future and satisfying their need for challenging academic coursework by participating in BCCC’s Career and College Promise Program (CCPP). High school students can get a head start on college, tuition free!

Can you tell me about the quality of instruction?

The vast majority of BCCC instructors have a master's degree in their field of expertise. Many instructors choose to teach at BCCC because they appreciate the learning environment and smaller class size.

Is BCCC an accredited college?

Yes! BCCC is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Accreditation guarantees a reputation of excellence that you can rely on.

Do I have to schedule a placement test?

If you have not previously completed a college math and/or English course, your entry-level math and English courses are determined by your unweighted high school GPA. If your unweighted high school GPA is not available, you can opt to take the RISE placement test. To schedule a placement test, click here.

For students with disabilities who require testing accommodations, contact our student accessibility services office at 252-940-6313 at least two weeks prior to your placement test appointment.

Can my placement test scores from another college be used at BCCC?

Yes, if you took the College Board ACCUPLACER at another institution, they can be used for placement at BCCC. Official test scores must be sent to the BCCC Admissions Office directly from the institution that administered the test. The College also accepts COMPASS, ASSET, ACT, and SAT scores.

How do I take an online class?

Online course options offer opportunities for students to earn college credit when and where it is convenient for the student. Admissions, registration, and payment processes are the same for online and face-to-face classes. An online assessment is required for students enrolled in online classes. Check the Distance Education website for additional information about offerings and requirements.

How can I go to college and work at the same time?

Many students work part-time while attending BCCC. We understand that time is precious, so our students have access to day, evening, weekend, and online class options. Online course options offer opportunities for students to earn college credit when and where it is convenient for the student.

What if I need a job while I'm attending BCCC?

Reach out to the Financial Aid office in building 9 to inquire about work-study opportunities.

What about student life outside the classroom?

College isn’t all work – it’s also a lot of fun! At BCCC, you can make new friends, join a student organization, or simply hang out in the student lounge. BCCC encourages involvement in student activities to help develop individual initiative, group leadership, and cooperation. The College strives to provide students with opportunities to participate in activities that relate to educational objectives, satisfy social needs, provide recreational opportunities, and encourage cultural enrichment. What happens after I graduate?

That depends on you! Some students continue their education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree. However, many students begin pursuing their careers in various fields related to their program of study. Some students opt to continue in their present jobs and others may choose to take a break between school and work.
