Beaufort County Community College Hosts First Annual Day of Service
Beaufort County Community College (Beaufort CCC) held its First Annual MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 20. The event honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service by bringing the community together for a morning of impactful volunteerism.
Participants joined one of three volunteer teams: Team Sensational Seniors to support elderly community members with companionship and essential services, including nursing home visits and meal delivery; Team Caring Essentials collected and distribute winter clothing and socks for those in need by hosting a clothing drive through the college and local churches and partnered with local shelters; and Team Furry Little Friends assisted the Beaufort County Animal Shelter with cleaning, feeding, and creating pet care packages.
Teams were comprised of students, staff, and instructors at the college. After completing services in the community, the teams returned to campus for acknowledgement and fellowship with community leaders from local faith-based organizations, service providers, and local government.
The day honors Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community through service and makes it a day of unity and action. It builds on the college’s legacy of bringing together community leaders for a breakfast to consider the legacy and the work still to be done to build prosperous and just community.
