Career & College Promise Workforce Pathways

Employers in today’s workforce are facing a skills gap; they need trained and qualified workers to fill a variety of positions. The Career and College Promise (CCP) Workforce Pathways are designed for eligible high school juniors and seniors to earn industry-recognized credentials while still in high school...for free! The registration fee for the pathway courses is waived for eligible 11th and 12th graders. Students will be responsible for purchasing textbooks and paying local course fees associated with the course.

Students are eligible to receive high school credit if they complete CCP Workforce Pathway courses contingent upon the approval of the Career and Technical Education Director or Chief Academic Officer of their educational agency.

The process to register is simple:

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Truck Driving

Description: The Truck Driver Training program at BCCC will train students to drive a Class-A combination vehicle and prepare students for their pre-trip inspection, off road skills test and the driving test, which are all components of the NCDMV commercial driver’s license (CDL) exam. This is a 384-hour hybrid program which involves online assignments each week paired with hands-on driving training each weekend. The course includes log truck driving training with the potential to pursue postcourse employment with a local logging company.

Industry Credential: NC Department of Transportation Commercial Drivers License

Prerequisite: Students must be a 12th grader, 18+ years of age, with an unweighted GPA of 2.8 OR assessment scores from Attachment A (see above hyperlink to Verification of Eligibility Form) OR recommendation of high school principal or his/her designee with written rational for recommendation.

Participating School Districts: Beaufort County Schools, Hyde County Schools, Washington County Public School, and Washington Montessori Public Charter School.

Costs: $180 registration fee waived. Estimated $350 book & fees.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Description: EMT is a 16-week, 228-hour course introducing students to emergency prehospital care. Upon completion of this course, students will be credentialed to provide emergency care at the EMT level. The schedule includes online course components along with weeknight and Saturday sessions.

Industry Credential: EMT Initial state credential through NC Office of Emergency Medical Services

Prerequisite: Students must be a 12th grader with an unweighted GPA of 2.8 OR assessment scores from Attachment A (see above hyperlink to Verification of Eligibility Form) OR recommendation of high school principal or his/her designee with written rational for recommendation.

Participating School Districts: Beaufort County Schools, Hyde County Schools, Washington County Public Schools, and Washington Montessori Public Charter School.

Costs: $180 registration fee waived. Estimated $250 books & fees.

Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician

Description: HVAC Technician is a three-course sequence consisting of HVAC Level I, HVAC Level II, and HVAC Level III. The classes provide both classroom instruction and practical skills that will allow a student to enter the workforce as an HVAC installer or technician. Each course meets for 96 hours.

Industry Credential: HVAC Level I offers the ESCO Group EPA Section 608 credential. HVAC Level II offers the ESCO Group Universal R-410A exam. HVAC Level III offers the ESCO Group Employment Ready for System Diagnostics and Troubleshooting credential.

Prerequisite: Students must be an 11th or 12th grader with an unweighted GPA of 2.8 OR assessment scores from Attachment A (see above hyperlink to Verification of Eligibility Form) OR recommendation of high school principal or his/her designee with written rational for recommendation.

Costs: $180 registration fee waived. Estimated $80 books & fees.

Natural Haircare Specialist

Description: This course is designed to teach how to care for natural hair without using chemicals such as perms/relaxers and hair color. The style techniques include braiding, twisting, wrapping, extending, and locking natural hair. The coursework also includes teaching the proper health, safety, and sanitation procedures to avoid spreading infections. The students can apply their skills to clients who visit the clinic. After successfully completing the course, the students can sit for the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts exam to become licensed Natural Hair Care Specialists.

Industry Credential: NC State Board of Cosmetic Arts, Natural Hair Care Specialist License

Prerequisite: Students must be an 11th or 12th graders with an unweighted GPA of 2.8 OR assessment scores from Attachment A (see above hyperlink to Verification of Eligibility Form) OR recommendation of the high school principal or his/her designee with a written rationale for the recommendation.

Participating School Districts: Washington High School

Costs: $180 registration fee waived. Students are responsible for paying local fees and purchasing textbooks and supply kits. Scholarships are available.

Nurse Aide I

Description: This is a 160-hour course designed to prepare the student to provide personal care and basic nursing skills. Course content includes but is not limited to: role of the nurse aide, infection control, communication, and resident’s rights.

Industry Credential: Nurse Aide I with NC Department of Health Service Regulation

Prerequisite: Students must be a 12th grader with an unweighted GPA of 2.8 OR assessment scores from Attachment A (see above hyperlink to Verification of Eligibility Form) OR recommendation of high school principal or his/her designee with written rational for recommendation. A Silver Career Readiness Certificate OR passing scores on an approved college placement exam is also required. This course is only available to 12th graders during the spring semester.

Participating School Districts: Beaufort County Schools (Ed Tech Center & Early College High School), Hyde County Schools, Tyrrell County Schools, Washington County Schools, Washington High School, and Washington Montessori Public Charter School.

Costs: $180 registration fee waived. Estimated $270 for book and fees.

Pharmacy Technician

Description: This is a 96-hour course designed to prepare the student through classroom instruction to enter the pharmacy field as a Pharmacy Technician I. Core course concept is basic training in pharmacy and pharmacology. Student will complete 10 hours of shadowing at an assigned pharmacy as part of their training.

Industry Credential: Pharmacy Technician with Pharmacy Technician Certification Board

Prerequisite: Students must be a 12th grader with an unweighted GPA of 2.8 OR assessment scores from Attachment A (see above hyperlink to Verification of Eligibility Form) OR recommendation of high school principal or his/her designee with written rational for recommendation. A Bronze Career Readiness Certificate OR passing scores on an approved college placement exam is also required.

Costs: $180 registration fee waived. Estimated $250 book & fees.

Phlebotomy Technician

Description: This is a 16-week, 210-hour course consisting of theory and clinical experiences, which prepares the student to enter the medical field as a Phlebotomist in various settings. Core course concept is instruction in how to safely and competently perform venipunctures. Students who successfully complete this course will receive course credit for MLT-271 in the BCCC Medical Lab Technician curriculum program.

Industry Credential: Phlebotomy Technician certification with American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT)

Prerequisite: Students must be 18+ years of age on or before March 15th and a 12th grader with an unweighted GPA of 2.8 OR assessment scores from Attachment A (see above hyperlink to Verification of Eligibility Form) OR recommendation of high school principal or his/her designee with written rational for recommendation. A Bronze Career Readiness Certificate OR passing scores on an approved college placement exam is also required.

Participating School Districts: Beaufort County Schools, Hyde County Schools, Washington County Public Schools, and Washington Montessori Public Charter School.

Costs: $180 registration fee waived. Estimated $678 book and fees.

Registered Barber

Description: This academy is designed to train and prepare students for the profession of barbering. Students will learn the information needed to pass the state licensure exams and the most contemporary techniques to ensure success in school and employment on the job. They will learn skills, safety judgments, proper work habits, business skills, and desirable attitudes necessary to obtain licensure and competency in job entry-level positions in Barbering or a related career field.

Industry Credential: Registered Barber License, NC Board of Barber Examiners

Prerequisite: Students must be an 11th or 12th grader with an unweighted GPA of 2.8 OR assessment scores from Attachment A (see above hyperlink to Verification of Eligibility Form) OR recommendation of high school principal or his/her designee with written rational for recommendation.

Participating School Districts: Washington High School, Washington County High School, Washington County Early College High School

Costs: $180 registration fee waived. Students are responsible for cost of books, supply kits, and fees.

Small Engine Mechanic

Beaufort County Schools (Northside High School is not approved)

Description: The small engine mechanic course is a 225-hour course that explores the principles of small gasoline engine design, construction, and operation. The course presents a detailed overview of small engine maintenance, troubleshooting, rebuilding, and repair. It also covers the design, construction, operation, diagnosis, service, and repair of both mobile and stationary diesel engines. Content relates to on- and off-road vehicles, and industrial applications. Students will need to purchase the Small Gas Engine (ISBN: 978-1-63126-390-3) and the Diesel Technology (ISBN: 978-1-61960-832-0) textbooks for class. Each EETC credentialing exam costs $50.00 in addition to the registration fee. Retesting fees do apply.

Industry Credential: Two Stroke Engine, Four Stroke Engine, Compact Diesel Engine (Completion of all three qualify individual as an EETC Engine Technician); Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC)
