Embers Concert & Auction to Raise Money for Student Scholarships

The Beaufort County Community Foundation is continuing an annual tradition of bringing people to groove to the Embers while raising funds for scholarships.The Embers Featuring Craig Woolard will play at the Washington Civic Center on October 24, with doors opening at 5:00 p.m. The night of beach music and dancing also includes a silent auction. Tickets are required, and will not be sold at the door. There are only a limited number of tickets remaining and they can be purchased online.

Patrons can enjoy dinner at 6:00 p.m. catered by The Acreage Events. There will also be a cash bar as they listen to beach music of the Embers and bid on items in the silent auction. The South Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame inducted The Embers into its ranks. They have also been honored with the title of North Carolina’s Official Ambassadors of Music.

The concert and auction are one of the largest fundraisers for the foundation. It will raise funds for scholarships to help eligible students with the cost of tuition and books, as well as emergency grants. Last year, the foundation awarded a total of $160,000 to 140 students. It has already awarded $85,000 for the fall 2019 semester.

“Most of our scholarships are specifically tied to certain programs,” said Serena Sullivan VP of Institutional Advancement. “We have a lot of students who just need to get textbooks covered, or think everything is set with their financial aid and something falls through at the last minute. These funds allow us to act quickly to keep students enrolled, to keep them from derailing their education, and to let them focus on why they’re here­–to study and succeed.”

Items for the auction are donated from students, employees and local businesses. Items include basketball game tickets, artwork, jewelry and gift certificates to restaurants.

Tickets are on sale now for $75. Reservations can be made individually or for whole tables of 8-10 people. There are only a limited number remaining.
