The new program will allow students to get certified in manicuring in one semester.

New Single-Semester Manicuring Certificate Offered for Fall 2019

Beaufort County Community College will start offering a manicuring certificate for new students or current students who want to add the certificate to an existing degree or pathway. The college will offer a one class in the fall of 2019 and one in the spring of 2020. The program will allow students to get certified in a single semester.

Cosmetology and manicuring can provide a way for students to make a living or even start their own business in communities large and small. The skill can offer a way for current salon owners to expand into a new market.

The program will meet four days a week for five daytime hours a day, offering a compact 300-hour training schedule for those who want to achieve certification quickly. The program offers training in manicuring, pedicuring, application of acrylic and gel nails, nail art, communication skills, professional image and job-seeking skills.

“We are bringing back this program by request,” said Kim Moulden, lead professor for cosmetology at BCCC. “This gives our students one more skill that they can use to diversify their talents and give them a leg up in the local beauty industry.”

The cost of the program is approximately $600 in tuition and under $200 for nail kits. Financial aid may be available for students who are enrolled full-time and students may also qualify for scholarships.

Booth rental at a salon can run from $100-$125 per week for those who want to be self-employed. Salons that offer direct employment will typically split income 50/50 or 60/40. Booth rental can give a nail technician the freedom, along with the greater responsibility, of running their own business. This could also allow them to design a work schedule around family, college or other employment.

Future students who are interested in the program can contact Kim Moulden at 252-940-6469 for more information.
