First Class of Nurse Aides Finish Program in Hyde County

The first class of students of students finished the nurse aide program at the Hyde County-Davis Center in Engelhard. While Beaufort County Community College has offered the class on its main campus in Washington, this is the first time the class has been offered through the Davis Center. Ciara Barfield, Jessie Miller, Monica Swain, Ana Swindell, and Janice Cooper-Windley completed the course.

Graduates of the nurse aide programs can provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for elderly adults. Students participate in clinical internships as part of the program at locations such as Vidant Multispecialty Clinic in Belhaven and Cross Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation. The Hyde County class is taught by instructor Stephanie Stewart.

The college offers a variety of healthcare programs, from nurse aide and registered medical assistant training to starting nurses on their bachelor’s degrees through the RIBN program. This variety of programs means that the college can cater to students who are starting or returning to college later in life, advancing their certification or changing careers. BCCC’s connection to the local healthcare industry means that students fill needed positions in a variety of services throughout the community.

The Hyde County-Davis Center will hold a Heartsaver CPR/AED class on June 26 from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
