Dr. LaTonya Nixon Joins BCCC as New VP of Student Services

Beaufort County Community College is happy to announce Dr. LaTonya Nixon as its new Vice President of Student Services. Nixon had most recently served as Dean of Student Services at Roanoke-Chowan Community College. In her new role at BCCC, she will oversee financial aid, student records, admissions and recruitment, student activities, counseling and student support services. She replaces Dr. Jay Sullivan, who assumed to role of Vice President of Academic Affairs in January of 2019.

Nixon has served in her current role at Roanoke Chowan since 2017. She brings to BCCC over 20 years of experience in student support, working as TRiO executive director at Pitt Community College and in student support services at Tidewater Community College in Virginia. She holds a BS in Psychology from Longwood University in Virginia, a Master of Arts in Community and Clinical Psychology from Norfolk State University, and a Doctor of Education in Administrative Leadership for Teacher Learning from Walden University.

“I am delighted to join the team,” said Nixon. “When I began searching to make a job transition, I was very impressed with BCCC because Dr. Loope's leadership, and for how the college was dedicated to student success with a holistic perspective of impacting students’ academic journey and ultimately improving their quality of life. I am honored to be a part of an institution that passionately transforms others.”

In its search for a new vice president, the college held open forums for the top two candidates. Candidates gave presentations and fielded questions from faculty and staff.

“Dr. Nixon greatly impressed the search committee, attendees at the college-wide open forum, and me with her in-depth understanding of the multiple roles of a chief student services officer at a rural community college and with her overall commitment to student success,” said Dr. Dave Loope, President of BCCC.

She started in the position on August 5.
