Halloween Bash will not stay buried; crawls back on Oct. 31 with contests & games

The Student Government Association at Beaufort County Community College is shivering with anticipation as it gets ready for its Halloween Bash. The event is open to the public, like an unlit stairwell leading down to a basement with suspicious groans, and will feature games, a carved pumpkin contest, costume contest and a writing contest. There will be candy and other prizes given away by Kaos as KISS FM 101.9 broadcasts on-location. Festivities start at 11:30 a.m. Children are welcome, and will be returned to parents.

The costume contest is open to students, faculty and staff. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., with prizes for scariest, funniest and most unique. There will also be a pumpkin carving contest with the same categories. Students will be judged by faculty and staff, and students will judge the faculty and staff.

The BCCC Library is also hosting the 31 Words of Halloween Scary Story Contest. Students will enter their 31-word HORROR story that will scare, tear and flare fear into the audience. Stories will be read center stage at noon so participants should practice their best Vincent Price/Alan Rickman voice and see if they have what it takes to win. The contest categories are horror humor, Southern Gothic, monsters/ghosts/ghouls and psychological thriller. All work must be original and may not exceed 31 words. Entry forms and stories must be completed and emailed/dropped in library by noon, October 30. Stories must be appropriate for the audience, and writers will read their own works. Scoring will be based half on story and half on stage delivery. There will be prizes in each category, and winners will be announced November 4th.

SGA plans to have several games, including the Bagged Body Race (sac race), Balloon Pop, corn hole, Witches Landing (lawn darts), Witches Hat Toss, Pumpkin Bean Bag Toss, and a photo booth. Each person will have an opportunity to get candy from the game booths.

After playing games, participants can grab “fang”-witches (chicken tenders with a roll), nachos and cheese, cotton candy, popcorn, fruit and goodie bags.

Sacrifice a little of your time. Join us for the Halloween Bash.
