Celebrate Black History Month on campus



The month of February is nationally observed as Black History Month. It is a time in which we commemorate and celebrate the important contributions and achievements of African-Americans throughout our nation's history. In observance of Black History Month 2020, TRIO/Student Support Services and other areas across campus will offer students, staff and faculty the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the achievements of African-Americans with the following events listed below:

2020 STAR (Students using Tools and Applying Resources) Black History Quiz Challenge (all month)

If you are interested in completing the quiz challenge questions, please stop by Building 1, Room 120.

African American Books & Black Literature Display (all month)

Check out books selected by Paula Hopper, Director of Learning Resource Center, in Library in Building 5.

BCCC College Grill (Wednesday, February 5, 12, & 26)

On the days listed above, BCCC College Grill lunch menu will consist of traditional southern style African-American foods. Please note, the food selections are just an illustration of some dishes and ingredients that were traditionally prepared by African-Americans. A special thank you to all of the TRIO students who played part in suggesting the menu choices. Please join us for lunch!

13th Film & Discussion (1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 26)

Join Sociology Professor Ashleigh Howard and History Professor Dr. Keith Lyon for a screening of 13th featuring commentary and group discussion of the film's social and historical issues. This award-winning documentary explores the history of racial inequality in the United States, focusing on the fact that the nation's prisons are disproportionately filled with African-Americans. Join us the the LEC in Building 3, Room 122.

2020 STAR Black History Quiz Challenge Celebration (Noon, Thursday, February 27)

Come see how you did on your Black History Month Quiz Challenge. A traditional African-American, southern-style lunch will be provided for TRIO/SSS participants who participate in the Black History Quiz Challenge in the Cafeteria in Building 5.
