BCCC celebrates the season of giving

This year especially, as campus has been quiet and many families have had to cope with the consequences of an unmitigated pandemic in the United States, the Beaufort County Community College community has joined together to collect funds and supplies to make the holidays brighter for all of our community members. Student and employees collected donations for Toys for Tots, the Salvation Army and the Beaufort County Humane Society; hosted an Angel Tree; and donated to Adopt-a-Senior.

The college’s contributions to Toys for Tots will help in part as the organization serves 275 families and over 650 children with gifts for the holidays.

Collection sites across campus resulted in 659 individual food items donated to the Salvation Army.

This year, the college increased the number of names on its Salvation Army Angel Tree to 30, and all gift wishes were filled. Participants choose an “angel” off the tree with a list of suggested gifts for a specific child.

Gamma Beta Phi, the college’s honor society, raised $1551 for Adopt-A-Senior, an organization helping to provide gifts to seniors living in nursing homes. Especially this year, nursing homes have been locked down to prevent outbreaks, these gifts will help seniors know they are not forgotten. The donation will support 30 residents for a year.

The first-year Associate Degree Nursing class gathered donations of pet food and toys for the Humane Society of Beaufort County.

The college hopes that its students, its employees and the public take these opportunities to make Beaufort County a more joyful, just and healthier community during this season of giving.
