Celebrate Disability Awareness Week Oct. 2-Oct. 6

From October 2-6, we will be celebrating Disability Awareness Week, with Chalk the Walk throughout the week, Come Chat with Me: Conversational Sign Language on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 12:00, Disability Awareness Bingo on Wednesday, October 4 at 12:00, and Resource Connection on Thursday, October 5 at 11:00. The Resource Fair brings together resources across the community and is open to the public.

“Chalk the Walk” is an opportunity for students and employees to decorate the sidewalks across campus with affirming messages. There will be chalk located around campus and Student Services staff will choose a winning design from both students and employees.

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, Dr. LaTonya Nixon will offer basic conversations in American Sign Language from 12:00-1:00 p.m. through Come Chat with me: Conversational Sign Language in Building 1, Room 105.

On Wednesday, Oct. 4, students can participate in Accessibility Bingo from 12:00-1:00 p.m., increasing their knowledge about disabilities and accessibility. This will take place in the Student Center in Building 9.

The Resource Connection on Thursday, October 5 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Student Center in Building 9 brings together resources from across the community and is open to the public.

BCCC welcomes students with disabilities and offers many services to support their education. Students can contact Alex Shreve, accessibility services coordinator, at alex.shreve@beaufortccc.edu to get accommodations for classes and connected to other services.
