Men of Success Participates in Multi-College Initiative

Beaufort County Community College’s Men of Success male minority mentoring program participated in the Dream in Color Summit, a collaboration between Southeastern Community College, Fayetteville Technical College, and Beaufort CCC. It was held on October 25 at Fayetteville Tech, with over 40 participants.

Vice presidents at the three colleges developed the joint conference to encourage minority male students to seek excellence in life, with a focus on academic excellence, mental health, and financial literacy. Students from all three colleges attended, and staff from YES, Fayetteville Tech’s minority male mentoring program, and Beaufort CCC’s Men of Success coach Les Jackson participated.

“The conference featured dynamic speakers who passionately addressed issues concerning minority youth in the areas of goal attainment and mental health awareness,” said Jackson. “Through the empowering messages, they encouraged minority males to embrace their potential and strive for success in all areas of their lives.”

The Minority Male Success Initiative is a grant which aims to aims to increase the degree completion rate for minority males. Forty-eight of the 58 community colleges in North Carolina have a similar program to Men of Success through the MMSI grant. The three colleges are already working toward a larger-scale conference for 2024.
