Men of Success Attend Black Male Summit in Greensboro

Beaufort County Community College’s Men of Success attended the Black Male Summit in Greensboro, N.C. on March 22-23. The event was put on by City Help of the Triad, a non-profit organization that works to provide resources to the community of Greensboro and seeks to “see Black men go from surviving to thriving.” The summit's theme was “From the Block to the Boardroom!” Beaufort CCC’s Men of Success program is a grant-funded minority male mentoring program.

The theme resonated from the opening panel discussion, “Navigating Success: Challenges & Opportunities for Black Men Across Generations.” The panel engaged the audience by unraveling challenges in the areas of mental health, fitness, education, and business.

Jaquise Holliday, a Men of Success member, asked the panel how he can go about getting a mentor to help him get started in business. The owner and president of C2 Contractors, C.C. Lamberth jumped up and said, “I accept the responsibility to become your mentor!” Holliday aspires to start his own landscaping business and welcomed the newly found support.

The momentum of Friday night was followed with a variety of workshops. Men of Success member DeAndre Daniels said he gained insight from the “5 Senses of Leader” session headed by Pastor Harold Burnett II.

“The entire summit was a great place to network and develop new relationships,” said Daniels. “I left the summit feeling inspired, engaged, and motivated to come back and get to work in Washington, N.C.” Daniels has dreams of opening his non-profit to support young people.

Beaufort CCC’s Men of Success group was grateful for the work of Pastor Reginald Holiday and others who created a warm and welcoming environment at the Black Male Summit of Guilford County.
