Kurt Ryan Joins Beaufort CCC Board of Trustees

Retired Major General Kurt Ryan joined the Beaufort County Community College (Beaufort CCC) Board of Trustees on October 21. Ryan was appointed by the North Carolina Senate to replace Mitchell St. Clair, who retired from the board.

Kurt Ryan is a retired Major General with over three decades of service in the U.S. Army, specializing in logistics and distribution. During his military career, he served across nearly 50 countries, excelling in operational and strategic planning, team building, and supply chain management. Following his retirement in 2021, he has continued his dedication to leadership and community service, earning recognition such as the North Carolina Governor’s Medallion for voluntary service. An advocate for values-based leadership, Ryan actively contributes to community revitalization projects and supports various philanthropic initiatives, particularly those for veterans and youth development.

Committed to lifelong learning, Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from York College of Pennsylvania, along with two master’s degrees in Logistics Management and Strategic Studies. He is a decorated Eagle Scout and former wrestling champion, enjoying outdoor activities such as sailing, cycling, and studying American history. Together with his wife Jennifer, he resides in eastern North Carolina, where he remains engaged in leadership roles and mentoring, fostering personal and professional growth in others.

Beaufort CCC’s Board of Trustees guides the college to help meet the educational and training needs of the college’s service area of Beaufort, Hyde, Tyrrell, and Washington Counties and helps the college be an innovative, national leader among rural community colleges in the promotion of postsecondary education linked to social and economic mobility for the residents of its service region.
